Blue stood in the shadow of Mt. Moon, his eyes struggling to adjust to the darkness as he stared into the chasm before him. The cave was blacker than anything he had seen before, with the shadows seeming to claw at the cave mouth like a trapped beast desperate to escape. Still, he had faced worse in his journey, and, after withdrawing a small flashlight from his jacket, Blue stepped into the mouth of the cave. The quivering beam of light did it's best to fight it's way through the smothering blackness of the cavern, but even with it's assistance Blue could barely see more than a few feet in front of himself. Frustrated, his hand grasped a pokeball that hung lazily from his belt buckle, pressing the button on it's surface to free the pokemon stored within. Charizard roared, his deafening voice shaking the very cavern itself as he expressed his delight in being free. The roaring flame from his tail lit the surrounding environment, allowing Blue to finally see his way clearly inside the cavern. There was only a single path for them to follow, a narrow tunnel which extended deep into the blackness of the cave. Seemed simple enough.

(Sandshrew Level Ten, Cranidos Level Twenty Five)

Blue and his Charizard progressed deeper into the darkness of Mount Moon. The bright crimson light emitted from Charizard's tail helped light their path inside the narrow entranceway to the Mountain, but once the pair reached a clearing, they soon found the light emitted from Charizard's tail was useless. The cavern was vast, and the light emitted from the fire was travelling so far to reach any of the surrounding walls that it was being devoured by the darkness before returning to their eyes. Because of this, the pair could only see the ground at their feet, which was lit up in a circular pattern as though a spotlight was being aimed at them. "Charizard, use Flamethrower!" Charizard stomped his right foot in acknowledgement as he breathed deep, holding it for a second before expelling a ferocious blast of fire. The flames lit up entire cavern, revealing to the pair the true size of the area they were in. The roof of the cave was at least a hundred feet above the pair, with back walls so far away as to be impossible to estimate. The area around them was littered with standing stones and small pitholes. As Charizard kept exhaling the stream of flames, Blue's eyes caught a Sandshrew sprinting across the ground towards a nearby hole before quickly crawling into it in an attempt to avoid the clearly superior pokemon that accompanied blue.

The pair began to explore the surrounding area, with Charizard occasionally releasing a stream of flame to help the pair find their way. They started by exploring some nearby standing stones before finally deciding to hug a wall of the cave and follow it until they found something interesting. It took them awhile, but after a short walk they found a smaller cave attached to the side of the main cavern just large enough for them to fit in, although Charizard had to crawl to fit his enormous stature inside. After following the cavern for several feet, it opened out into a larger area roughly twenty feet in diametre. In the corner of the cave sat a Cranidos, nuzzled into a nest of rotting leaves.

As the Cranidos saw the pair, it leapt to it's feet, ready for a fight. Clearly the size advantage the Charizard presented did not intimidate the bold little pokemon, who after releasing a mighty roar began to charge head first towards Charizard. Charizard swung his right foot towards the head of the Cranidos, his heel meeting the thick armoued skull of the beast. Although the impact hurt Charizard more than he expected due to the impressive reinforced head of the Cranidos, the strength of the young pokemon simply could not compare to the mature veteran Charizard, who sent the Cranidos flying into the wall of the cavern. Quick as a flash, Blue withdrew an Ultraball from his left pocket and hurled it towards the young Dinosaur pokemon, who disappeared into the ball with a flash of light. The ball bounced and shook for a moment, hopping around the floor of the cavern as the Cranidos within struggled with all it's might, before finally it stopped, releasing a final high pitched "BING" to confirm that the Crandios had been captured.

(Cranidos captured with Ultra Ball. 1200 words with 1500 word count requirement deduction from greatball = 250 word minimum.
